A tweet from Minecraft publisher Markus Persson was posted mere moments before Deadline posted announcing that LEGO MOVIE producer Roy Lee was developing Minecraft into a feature film via his Vertigo Entertainment production company.
The web became abuzz today as word began spreading from Twitter to Facebook and gaming forums across the Web.
Someone is trying leak the fact that we’re working with Warner Brothers on a potential Minecraft Movie. I wanted to be the leak!

Still raking in box office success ($188 mil. to date) from The Lego Movie, Warner Bros. may be looking to go for a two-fer and possibly use Lego’s formula to create another block-building world. Only this time, the world is digital.
Currently, no writer has been named and it’s far too soon to see any name talent attached for voices or even real life appearances. A plot concept has not even been mentioned.
The tremendously popular Minecraft (over 100 million users to date) having such an open world and universal appeal means that there are few if any limits on what the film could be about.
This is all very recent with only Persson’s tweet so far to confirm Deadline’s story. But, likely more and more details will be forthcoming as the deal is finalized and the concept moves into preproduction.
