In the past few months there have been a multitude of leaks which suggest that the third entry into the much-loved zombie co-op game, Left 4 Dead, is in the works over at Valve.
In October of last year it surfaced that Valve Software’s JIRA (a bug tracking piece of software) had accidentally confirmed that both Half-Life 3 and Left 4 Dead 3 are in development; furthermore it even churned up some names that you may recognise.
Both Chet Faliszek, who is known for his work as the lead writer on the previous two entries, and Clint Hocking, who had previously been the creative director of Splinter Cell, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Far Cry 2, were tagged as being in the development team. Then in August of last year ‘Steam’ seemed to have seemingly confirmed that it was in development when they posted a listing for it on the services store page.
Now while all these points can all be taken with a pinch of salt, we do have the strongest clue that the game will presumably go in development in that our lord and saviour, Gaben, said on his Twitter:
“Left4dead 2 is working me to the bone, I shall one day rest and on that day, I’ll finally be able to start work on left4dead 3.”
Now comes the latest new source of information, specifically a document which recently surfaced on Neogaf features what seems to be a remake of the L4D2 map ‘Plantation’ but on the new Source 2.0 Engine.
Valve has previously released all four maps for maps from the original L4D in an updated style for the much-loved sequel, so could they be preparing to do the same for the third entry into the series?
