Samba de Amigo Party Central: Sonic Will Put on His Dancing Shoes This Summer

Sega has revealed that everyone’s favorite speedy hedgehog will be making a cameo appearance in the upcoming Samba de Amigo: Party Central. Following the reveal of Sonic Origins Plus, Sonic will be dancing to the beat of two songs from the series, as well as shaking his money maker on the streets of City Escape from Sonic Adventure 2.

Included in the base Samba de Amigo: Party Central game, you’ll be able to rock out to “Escape from the City” from Sonic Adventure 2 and “Fist Bump” from Sonic Forces. As mentioned above, a stage based around the City Escape level from Adventure 2 will be present to complete the crossover.

This fun little crossover is reminiscent of what Sega did for Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz. That game not only featured Sonic and Tails, but also Kiryu Kazuma from the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series. If Kiryu somehow makes his way into Samba de Amigo, I might scream in bliss.

Party Central is the latest installment in the Samba de Amigo series that follows on from the arcade and Dreamcast original. One of the few original titles from Sonic Team that doesn’t involve the Blue Blur (except for now), Sega hasn’t given much acknowledgment to his rhythm title outside of a port to the Wii in 2008. 2023 seems to be the year for Amigo’s comeback tour.

This Switch-exclusive sequel will feature 40 songs from a variety of genres and have post-launch DLC available. An online multiplayer function and leaderboards will give high-score chasers the chance to prove their might to the world, as well as show off their fashion with character customization.

Samba de Amigo: Party Central is scheduled for release in summer 2023 on Nintendo Switch.
