The Ragnarok Online 2 open beta is officially starting tomorrow, and I know there are a lot of you getting antsy about the launch. Unfortunately you’re going to have to wait to play: Asiasoft Online has announced that the open beta will be IP-restricted to South East Asian countries.
Asiasoft Online announced the restrictions on the Ragnarok Online 2 Facebook page, citing a licensing agreement with Gravity as the cause:
However, it’s with our deepest apologies that we announce we will not be able to provide the RO2 game service to players outside of our optimised countries – Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam – due to our licence agreement with the game’s developer, Gravity Co., Ltd.
The announcement of an IP restriction comes as a surprise, as players from anywhere in the world could participate in the closed beta in early December. International players were also allowed to participate in the stress tests between December 27th and today.
Ragnarok Online 2 is expected to have an official North American server launch sometime later this year. Even so, this news is disappointing to fans looking to get an early taste of what might be Gravity’s next big game.
