Sega is back to producing hardware. As awesome as that sounds, there are two reasons you shouldn’t get your hopes up: it’s only available in Japan and they’re netbooks.
In a surprising move from the former console publisher, Sega has decided to create four different netbooks, each with four interchangeable decals. These decals are of the Mega Drive, the Saturn, the Dreamcast, and a blue one that just says “Sega” on it.
They should make computer towers like this.
If you are in Japan and want to purchase one of these netbooks, you can get them from Enterbrain for ¥99,750 – ¥194,250 (around $1,075-$2095) depending on which one of the netbooks you choose. There are no plans for an international release.
As cool as these netbooks are, let’s face it: they’re not a new console. Even as the years go by, I never give up hope that Sega will eventually make its way back into the console market. Come back, baby. We miss you.
