One of the most infamous console wars in video game history will soon recieve the Hollywood treatment. Best movie-making buds Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (This Is The End, Pineapple Express) are set to write and direct the film adaption of Blake Harris’s upcoming book, Console Wars: Sega, Nintendo and the Battle that Defined a Generation. Scott Rudin (The Social Network) will be producing.
Described as a “behind-the-scenes business thriller,” Blake’s book details the early ’90s console war between Sega and Nintendo. The book isn’t due out until May, but judging the forward written by Rogen and Goldberg, it appears that a collaboration has been in the works for a while.
Could this be the great video game movie we’ve been waiting for? Well if you’ve seen The Social Network or Moneyball, then you already know Rudin does an amazing job with biographical films. And while Rogen and Goldberg specialize in stoner comedies, the pair’s affinity for all things nerdy is a good sign that the film is the right hands. The two are currently working on a television adaptation of the comic series Preacher, and it’s been rumored that they’ve been asked to pen the Uncharted movie.
It’s a bit early for casting rumors but I’d bet money that Jonah Hill will make an appearance in there somewhere…
