Sony has announced more details on the Share Play feature that will be in the PlayStation 4 2.0 Firmware Update released on Tuesday, including three different ways to use it.

  1. Players have the ability to share their screen with other gamers. They can watch what you’re doing and assist you in if you need help, or if they just want to watch and be entertained. It’s the equivalent of having a buddy over, except they don’t have to be right next to you. PlayStation Plus is not required to use this feature.
  2. There’s also the ability to give their friend control of the game. Similar to how PC has had the ability for other users to remotely control the computer, other gamers can do the same when you’re playing a game if you allow them to. That player who has control doesn’t need a copy of the game nor a PS+ subscription, but the host does.
  3. Finally, somebody can join in to play a game even when the person joining the host doesn’t have a copy of the game. However, both players will need access to a PS+ subscription.

It’s an interesting concept, and there haven’t been any other limits announced yet for the product (although there are bound to be certain restrictions). One can assume if a gamer wants to give up their console and have somebody remotely play through an entire game, it could happen.
