Shigesato Itoi Gets His Vague on About Mother

Earthbound fans speculate over translated tweets from Mother series designer Shigesato Itoi.
This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

Shigesato Itoi is the designer for the Mother series, a trilogy of RPGs that has only seen its second iteration, retitled to Earthbound, released outside of Japan. He has been causing a bit of a stir amongst the fanbase of the series by posting some extremely vague statements regarding the series.

Earthbound Central, an English fansite for the series, translated his tweets: “Since it’s now okay to blurt this out, here goes: the ‘MOTHER republication’ thing I mentioned briefly before is making progress. It’s not (MOTHER) 4, though! This has to do with making ‘MOTHER’ playable. I can’t give out any details yet, but I do at least need to say that it isn’t 4.”

“PK never leaving Japan!”

Speculation has begun and it’s most likely regarding rerelease of the games a different platform. However, nothing is certain, especially with how foggy his tweets are. I’d personally love to see the Mother series finally get released over here in full, either as a virtual console release or as a remake.
