Slender – The Arrival Beta Gameplay

If you didn't pee your pants the first time, well, maybe you will with the beta play of the reboot.
This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

Let me start by saying that I’m paused at about a minute into this video in order to write this article. I’m not easily scared. I can sit through The Grudge or The Ring with my eyes mostly open. Mostly.

Look, little girls with hair and sounds are scary. I am terrified of children.

Regardless, when I played through Slender (and then watched Day[9] play it, and then my roommate), I had a hard time not flipping out whenever Slenderman would catch up to you. He’s creepy and appears out of nowhere and makes noises that blow your eardrums and it’s all around an unpleasant experience. But that’s why we love horror games.

Let’s start with the environment. If you played the first one, you know that it wasn’t the most visually stunning game you’ve ever played, and I think that was why so many people found themselves moving on. Without a really great atmosphere, which this reboot appears to have, you’ve got almost nothing. The sounds are clearer, the graphics are more advanced and in general the game looks more polished.

I’m paused at 1:43.

Upon continuing, you notice the sound that the game generates, only intensifying the atmosphere. You’re holding a video camera, recording your experience (which reminds me of [REC], but only the Spanish original, not the crappy English remake). I’m paused at 2:52, and the premise is that we’re still collecting pages, just like we were in the original game.

I’m at 3:50 and definitely didn’t make any noises resembling a screech. Watch the rest on your own, brave adventurers! Keep your eyes out for the release of this indie remake!
