Hi-Rez Studios’ Smite is now in open beta, after a six month long closed beta period. If you somehow couldn’t get into it before, now’s your chance to try the third-person MOBA.

As it stands, Smite is the only third-person MOBA available. Despite the change in perspective, the game retains the basic concepts of the genre. Teams must take out towers, farm minions, and take out jungle camps just as in other titles but without the mega-tryharding you find in League of Legends or Dota 2.

Basically it’s an action combat-oriented casual MOBA. That’s a good way to put it.

If you are one of the many who tried the game within the first couple weeks of closed beta and put it down, you will be surprised to find that the God roster has grown quite a bit. If you’re going to give it another go, the God stagnation we used to see is by no means the case today.

It will be interesting to see how Smite grows between now and its launch in March. Hi-Rez is constantly adding new Gods, with Hercules being the next one up. You can sign up for the open beta on the official website.
