SOMA – Theta Trailer Released

They just won't stop dying in this new SOMA trailer.

Frictional Games, creators of Penumbra and Amnesia: The Dark Descent, are hard at work on their newest title slated for release in 2015, SOMA.

What we know

SOMA is a survival horror game that takes place in what appears to be an abandoned scientific facility, where machinery began to take on human characteristics.

The radio has gone silent on PATHOS-2. As isolation bears down on the staff of the remote research facility, strange things are happening.

Machines are taking on human traits and alien constructions have started to interfere with routine. The world around them is turning into a nightmare.

The only way out is to do something unimaginable.

Each creature the player faces embodies a theme from the game. As for what you must do to escape… well, this trailer leads me to believe that the protagonist (you) might have to commit suicide. Hence the voice in this video, “Why do people keep killing themselves?” Maybe because they’re trying to get away from you, crazypants.

But I need it now

Frictional Games is by far one of my favorite studios. They know how to do survival horror (unlike some studios who enjoy making walking simulators–no, I’m not bitter), and they create environments that are truly worth exploring, even if you feel like you’re about to wet your pants.

This trailer shows some gameplay footage and early scenery, which all looks… well, creepy and fantastic. I couldn’t be more excited for this title. However, I really want to get a better idea of what we were doing with this machinery and why PATHOS-2 is now abandoned (hint: it’s probably because the machines killed everyone).

I don’t think I can wait an entire year for this to come out, Frictional. I think I sort of need it now.
