Today, Sega released the first trailer for the newest Sonic game to come out, Sonic: Lost World. They also showed some of the in-footage gameplay. And it looks oddly familiar.

As you would’ve guessed from my title, it’s similar to Super Mario Galaxy.

Granted, I’ve never played the games, but I know the type of style it plays. Sonic: Lost World has taken the Super Mario Galaxy concept and added Sonic, but with a little twist and fast paced action.

Evident from the trailer, Sonic has some new abilities.

He is able to wall-run, climb a ledge, and kick enemies in the air. Nothing really special. We’ve also got new enemies. The “Deadly Six.” Kinda cheesy, but I’ll live with it. Apparently, Dr. Eggman has harnessed the power of the Deadly Six and they have come to…well, we don’t know yet. Best guess is that they will betray Eggman and Sonic will come save the day. The game looks deliciously colorful in every way. It reminds me of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on the blast-processing Sega Genesis. Emerald Hill Zone was blasting with vibrant, bright colors. Even the enemies were beautiful. So I’m glad that Sega intends to give this game a more beautiful look towards it.

We also can see from the trailer that 2D elements are still used, and that’s great.

Sega has recently started to understand the fans. After Sonic Unleashed, they started to focus trying to add both 2D and 3D elements to Sonic games. How they executed it in Sonic Colors was just amazing. I get the rush of 3D action, and the difficult platforming when it switches to 2D. So I give massive kudos to Sega with trying out new things, but keeping the elements that the fans like.

So here’s to Sonic: Lost World. Let’s hope the play is as good as the trailer shows.

Just a guy that loves platforming games with a corny sense of humor. Big fan of Sonic, Mario, and Ratchet and Clank. Can't hate on that.
