After what seems like ages, we finally have a Starfield release date. Bethesda announced the space RPG will release November 11, 2022. Starfield will be an Xbox console exclusive and next-gen exclusive, only launching on Xbox Series X|S and PC. Starfield will release on Xbox Game Pass at launch, as well.
That said, we still don’t know much about Starfield so far. Bethesda’s Todd Howard said it’s “an epic about hope and humanity” and said it’s only possible thanks to next-generation hardware. It’s one of the first completely original Bethesda RPG in years.
The Starfield trailer mentions a group called Constellation and humanity’s final journey. What that journey is remains a mystery, literally. Xbox Wire describes Starfield like this:
In this next generation role-playing game set amongst the stars, create any character you want and explore with unparalleled freedom.
Harnessing the power of next-gen technology and built on the all-new Creation Engine 2, Starfield takes you on a journey through space as you strive to answer humanity’s greatest mystery.
Bethesda’s Todd Howard told The Telegraph a few more details about Starfield (thanks Nibel). Howard described Starfield as similar to Skyrim in structure, even down to not being able to climb, and said Constellation is one of many factions in the game. The team is focusing on making the world feel lived in, and no, Tom Cruise will not be in Starfield.
Bethesda has launched an official Starfield website, but there isn’t much extra information to be gleaned from it just yet. Fans can join the Starfield newsletter and Bethesda Discord through the site to stay up to date on Starfield news.
