State of Play Reveals Resident Evil 3 Remake, Kingdom Hearts 3 DLC, More

State of Play was a packed 20 minutes, with RE3make confirmation, Babylon Fall News, a Ghosts of Tsushima trailer, and a whole lot more.

Today was Sony’s last State of Play episode for 2019, but it certainly closes the PlayStation 4 news year out with a bang. There were plenty of new announcements, confirmations, and teases, so let’s get started with the biggest State of Play news first: the announcement of the Resident Evil 3 remake.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis Remake

Resident Evil: Project Resistance is a co-op multiplayer experience that recently went through closed beta. As Sony showed off a little of the multiplayer spin-off, they dabbled in a little trickery.

Starting off by advertising a campaign mode for Project Resistance, the episode transitioned into a lengthy trailer for the anticipated Resident Evil 3: Nemesis remake.

The Resident Evil 3 remake is real, as we reported, and it’s looking like a healthy expanded version of the original RE3, delving into Jill’s hardships, Carlos’ struggles with loyalty, and the origins of Nemesis itself. Resident Evil 3 remake is coming April 3, 2020, and pre-orders are open now. The game will include Project Resistance as an add-on, too.

Ghosts of Tsushima

Everyone’s been waiting for Ghosts of Tsushima news all year. We didn’t get any at E3, and we didn’t get any at the Tokyo Game Show — but we did get it today.

Unfortunately, it was only a lengthy trailer, and we didn’t get an anticipated release date, but there will reportedly be more news at The Game Awards in just two days. With the PS5 looming next year, it’s possible Ghosts of Tsushima might be a PS5 exclusive or a title that utilizes cross-gen play between PS4 and PlayStation 5.

Kingdom Hearts 3: ReMind

The leaked Kingdom Hearts 3: ReMind trailer from over the weekend aired again, showing what we can expect from Kingdom Hearts 3‘s DLC when it launches January 23, 2020.

The episode takes place before Sora’s final showdown against Master Xehanort, as he travels between the hearts of light. There’s more Aqua, but more importantly, it introduces two new things fans have wanted for a long time: more Final Fantasy and playable Kairi. Playable. Kairi. Let that sink in for a bit.

It’s also worth noting that KH3 will see a big patch in January as well. The update will bring a story update to the game, as well as “new abilities and a new form for Sora along with the addition of Keyblades, Oathkeeper and Oblivion.”

Pre-orders for the DLC are currently live. The DLC costs $29.99, while the DLC plus concert video package costs $39.99.

Babylon’s Fall

Remember Babylon’s Fall, the collaboration between Platinum Games and Square Enix? It’s okay. We thought SE forgot, too. But it didn’t.

Today’s State of Play showed off some of the game’s frenetic sword-and-magic action set in a gritty, Souls-like world. It’s pure Platinum for sure, with over the top combat moves and outrageously overpowered enemies. While we didn’t see much, Sony promised more to come in summer 2020.

Untitled Goose Game

State of Play actually opened by showing a littered river, as the camera panned out to show the dastardly feathered culprit. That’s right, Untitled Goose Game, previously a Nintendo Switch exclusive, is coming to PlayStation 4, bringing its special brand of village chaos with it on December 17.

Spellbreak

A new battle royale game is coming to the PS4 in 2020, combining spell-based combat with RPG-style gameplay (which ends up looking like Fortnite meets Overwatch, if we’re being honest).

The trailer didn’t show off too much apart from explosions of varying colors, but it’s called Spellbreak, and the closed beta will open in spring 2020.

Dreams

We got to see a bit more of Dreams‘ eclectic gameplay during State of Play, with switch-based puzzles, Frogger-style levels, and gorgeous environments ranging from a cabin in the woods to a barren urban hellscape. In short, if you can dream it, you can make it. Expect Dreams to launch on February 14, 2020.

Superliminal

Superliminal puts players in a strange area beyond psychospacial boundaries full of optical illusion puzzles. You’re being examined and studied because you also have special powers that let you interact with the environment in big, innovative ways.

It’s sort of like Elebits meets Picasso, and we’re okay with that. Superliminal is currently out on the Epic Games Store for PC. We’ll know more about the puzzle game on PS4 in 2020.

Predator: Hunting Grounds

Predator: Hunting Grounds finally got some new news as well, after first being shown off in an earlier State of Play and during PAX West earlier this year (we actually quite liked our time with it).

The State of Play trailer introduced some classes and pre-order bonuses, but it also announced a release date. Predator: Hunting Grounds will launch April 24, 2020.

That’s it for the year’s final State of Play episode of 2019, but stay tuned to GameSkinny for more news on all these titles and The Game Awards announcements as it develops.
