I was watching the Daily Fix just now, on ign.com, and besides some useless news on the Japanese and their new Pokémon Rumble game, what caught my attention was their “Valve+Xi3= Frenemies” message.
Nyomi Kyle then proceeded to talk about how Valve Software said:
“Valve began some exploratory work with Xi3 last year, but currently has no involvement in any product of theirs.”
Unsurprisingly, Jason Sullivan, Xi3’s CEO stated:
“Just because Valve may not ‘currently’ have any involvement… doesn’t mean that such involvement won’t exist in the future.”
“In closing, what Valve does or doesn’t do with its Steam Box will be up to them. So Gabe, it’s up to you. The ball is in your court.”
This is definitely a sign of issues with trust between the two companies… OR it could all be a publicity stunt. Nevertheless, if Xi3 decides to proceed with selling the Piston without support from Valve Software, you will still be able to access Steam with the Box.
Personally, I think that it’s quite immature for Valve to neglect something that everyone knows they are a part of. I am willing to bet that an executive from Xi3 probably pissed off an executive from Valve and so this all started.
I’m actually not interested in purchasing the Piston myself, because I figure why spend $999.99 on a system when I can just go out and spend $5,000.00 on something better. Not that I actually have $5,000.00.
Let me know what you think. I read all my comments.
Haemish out.
