Super Mario 3D World Will Up the Ante With Music

Be prepared for some awesome orchestral music in Super Mario 3D World!

The one thing about Nintendo titles that I always enjoy is the music. From the grand, epic music of The Legend of Zelda, to the ominous tones of Metroid–there is just something about the music Nintendo puts into its first-party games that demands respect and admiration.

So I was pleasantly surprised today when it was revealed that Super Mario 3D World, the new Mario game coming to the Wii U, will include live orchestral music. Speaking with Destructoid, the game’s lead composer Mahito Yokota said,

“There are naturally a lot of tracks performed live. We’re arranging the music with a big-band feel, taking advantage of a full horn section with trumpets and saxophones.”

My Take:

I’m all for video games that have these big show-stopping orchestral pieces. I loved hearing that type of music in Super Mario Galaxy and if the music of Super Mario 3D World is as good as that game, then count me in. In fact, I wish more studios would take this route. Sure, it might cost more money to hire a full-on orchestra, but hey, maybe it would help sell more games to audiophiles like myself.
