At first there was speculation that the demo would be a bonus to come with the 3DS XL bundle, but instead the demo will be available for Platinum Club Nintendo members – those who joined between July 1, 2013 and June 30, 2014 – who will receive 4 codes for early access.

The demo will include 5 playable characters: Mario, Pikachu, Link, Mega Man, and Villager to fight it out on the Battlefield stage. Local multiplayer will also be included in the demo, but it can only be opened 30 times before access expires.
