Minecraft inspired LEGO Worlds released on Steam Early Access

Surprise! LEGO Worlds already on Steam – is this the Minecraft killer?

Minecraft inspired LEGO Worlds released on Steam Early Access

Coming off the back of rumors last week of a Minecraft-inspired game in a LEGO universe (you can find our post about the rumors here), LEGO Worlds has arrived on Steam today with no prior warning from Warner Bros. or TT Games.

Here’s the Steam description of the game:

In a galaxy of procedural worlds made entirely from LEGO bricks, will you… EXPLORE environments filled with adventure, then alter them? DISCOVER secrets and treasures, then play with them? CREATE your own models, then make a world your own?

There’s no doubt it sounds very similar to Minecraft, perhaps with a little more focus on the creative side as I get the impression you can create models then place them anywhere you’d like, whereas that isn’t possible in Minecraft.

Here is the trailer for LEGO Worlds, published by Warner Bros:

It’s currently in Early Access for the price of £11.99/$14.99. It’s only slightly more expensive than Minecraft was in its alpha and beta stages, which may mean they’re going for a similar development process. TT Games explained why it’s in Early Access:

LEGO Worlds will be a fully open-world, creativity-driven game so we want to ensure that we provide it with the utmost care and attention as we expand on our ideas. So much of this game will be about building and sharing and by sharing our plans with the community, we hope to incorporate their feedback and build an experience together that fans of LEGO and this genre of video games can enjoy.

They also announced on the Steam page that the price is currently discounted and will rise when it eventually leaves Early Access, sometime in early 2016. Here’s a link to the Steam page for more information.
