Tekken 8 Bryan Fury Trailer Unleashes the Chaos

Tekken's resident zombie cyborg returns in Tekken 8 to bring the pain.

The Tekken 8 Bryan Fury trailer keeps bringing the hits (and reveals) to Bandai Namco’s latest entry in their flagship fighter. This time, our “new” fighter is Bryan Fury, who first joined the series in Tekken 3 and has been a mainstay ever since. If you’re into kickboxing, he may be the character to pick when Tekken 8 drops.

Billed as the “Harbinger of Chaos,” Bryan is just here to cause problems. A former police detective, he was killed in a shoot-out in Hong Kong while investigating the drug trade. After his death, a mad scientist named Doctor Abel reanimated him as a zombie cyborg for… reasons.

Tekken is a serious franchise with a serious story, okay? Bryan doesn’t talk much (he prefers to laugh maniacally instead), but he has an ongoing rivalry with Yoshimitsu (who isn’t in for Tekken 8… yet). He’s also thrown down with Paul Phoenix and the Jack series as well. We see him fight the latter two in this trailer.

Bryan’s fighting style is based on kickboxing, though his version of it is far from traditional. He borrows several moves from Karate and Muy Thai and takes a lot of joy in inflicting pain. His fighting style emphasizes his particular brand of sadism. Bryan traditionally relies on pressuring his opponents into making mistakes, and then heavily punishing them with his ferocious counter-hit game. The downside is that a lot of his offense is unsafe, so you have to play him carefully to take advantage of his massive damage potential.

This trailer also shows off Bryan’s minigun, which he seems to fire after winning a match. When it runs out of ammo, he throws it at the camera. It’s in-character.

Bryan’s Rage Art is a devastating uppercut that launches his opponent into the air. He pummels them with a series of rapid punches before knocking them away with another uppercut. Then he locks onto his opponent with his cybernetic eye while they’re down, and then delivers an absolutely devastating straight punch. It looks like it hurts quite a bit, which is very Bryan Fury.

Bryan Fury is joining what looks to be an expansive launch roster.  We’ve also seen trailers for Hwoarang, Lili, Leroy, Asuka, and returning favorites like Ling Xiaoyu.
