.. because you’re going to need it.
Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy arrived on the iOS App Store yesterday, bringing rhythm RPG hybrid action to a new platform. Though it’s essentially a port of the Nintendo 3DS version of the game, there are some differences between the two in both feature and price.
If your only option is the iOS version, be prepared to dish out some extra cash to get the songs you want. The actual Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy app is free, but it only comes with two songs by default: “Zanarkand” from Final Fantasy X and “One-Winged Angel” From Final Fantasy VII. Further songs must be purchased separately, either individually or in a pack.
Siliconera does some number crunching based on what’s available for the game now. The total cost of the iOS version is over $143. Individual songs cost $0.99, song bundles (of four) cost $2.99 each, and each character costs $1.99 each. It adds up pretty quickly.
In comparison, the Nintendo 3DS version costs just over $81.
The iOS version of Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy might be more expensive, but it has several more characters available for purchase — and music tracks from Final Fantasy Tactics. It is really hard to say no to the Final Fantasy Tactics musical score.
