Total War: Rome 2, the long awaited sequel to the fan favorite, is said to have 500 units, 117 factions, and 183 regions. According to VG247, this is five times as many units as the original game and almost double the already impressively large map size of Total War: Shogun 2.
Although this number is impressive, it’s yet to be seen how this will be implemented effectively. Many factions will only hold one region on the map while others will have an advantage by holding multiple regions.
The higher unit count a game has, the harder it is to work in an effective balance. The Total War series has been going on for over a decade, so, if anyone would be able to create a massive strategy game with a good sense of balance, it’s Total War: Rome 2’s developer Creative Assembly.
Here’s hoping that Total War: Rome 2 will be just as impressive to play once it comes out this year on PC.
