Town of Salem 2 Early Access Announced, New Details Revealed

Town of Salem is getting a sequel full of new content. Here's what we know about new roles, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and more.

Town of Salem 2, the sequel to the hit mystery game Town of Salem, is heading to Early Access. Social deduction sleuths will be back in action starting May 26 on Steam. Announced alongside an Early Access trailer, the game features a variety of updates, including free movement at night, new roles, and more. This is what we know so far.

The Town of Salem has been overtaken by the Coven — again. Expanding the existing Coven faction, there are new roles that have been added to the Coven DLC roles:

  • The Conjurer
  • The Ritualist
  • Voodoo Master
  • Dreamweaver
  • Enchanter
  • Illusionist
  • Wildling
  • Jinx

If you’re looking to play a certain role, Increase Scrolls and Cursed Scrolls can be utilized, allowing you a greater chance of getting the role you want and avoiding the roles you don’t. Along with the scrolls are a variety of new roles outside of the Coven, including:

  • The Deputy
  • The Prosecutor
  • Monarch
  • Trickster
  • Seer
  • Tavern Keeper
  • Amnesiac
  • Cleric
  • The Shroud
  • The Doomsayer

In addition to expanding the roles of the Coven and the townsfolk, the new Apocalypse Faction brings the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse to Town of Salem 2. While not many of the new roles in the faction were revealed, Death and Famine were shown in the trailer, alongside the reveal of a Four Horsemen game mode.

With the new Apocalypse faction, and the additions to Coven, Town, Neutral, Serial Killer, and Arsonist factions, in-game communication has been improved, as well. You’ll now be able to tag specific roles and players in chat when trying to figure out who the villains are.

Other changes from Town of Salem include being able to move your character in lobbies and at night; previously, only those with special abilities could move in those areas. As a ghost, you’ll be able to move, too, instead of just having a vote.

Along with the new content, Town of Salem 2 has multiple balance improvements from the first game. These include:

  • No consecutive Jails or Role Blocks
  • No consecutive controls from a Witch
  • No consecutive Silencing
  • Spy rework
  • Psychic rework
  • Invest rework
  • Executioner chooses their target
  • Serial Killer now has a Bloodlust ability
  • Townie guilt replaced with new Hangman mechanic

Town of Salem 2 is jam-packed with new content to explore as you decide the fate of Salem. While waiting for the early access release, check out our review of the original Town of Salem
