Watch Dogs: Legion lets players recruit an army of disgruntled London grannies (or almost anyone else) to take on corporate corruption. That’s what Ubisoft said during the September Ubisoft Forward, when the developers went in-depth on the game’s recruitment system and how players develop their crack team of resistance fighters.
“You can recruit the whole bloody city,” the video spotlight says, before adding “doesn’t mean you should.”
That’s because every Watch Dogs: Legion character comes with their own set of benefits and drawbacks. Players can hack into almost anyone’s data profile to learn their occupations, abilities, special perks, and potential drawbacks.
Some characters excel in mobility, while characters work best at dealing damage without actually killing anyone. One character shown works as a skilled hitman — until his habitual hiccups blow his cover and ruin the operation.
All recruitment takes is chatting with people to persuade them they should join the resistance movement’s cause. That often entails doing something for the person first, but once that’s out of the way, they join the team for good.
Other characters exist who can’t be recruited off the streets, but offer abilities that make seeking them out worthwhile.
Watch Dogs: Legion lets players create whatever team they dream of and then makes them all viable through a system of unlockable upgrades and gadgets. These range from spider-bots and throwable grenades to missile launchers for cars and shock traps.
