The rumored Prince of Persia remake is indeed happening, but not quite how the original rumors said. Ubisoft announced Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake during the September Ubisoft Forward, and it’s set for a January 21, 2021 release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is Ubisoft’s first-ever full remake and marks the first project Ubisoft’s Pune and Mumbai divisions are leading.
Twitter user Stealth40k spotted a Ubisoft tweet following the announcement that included a Prince of Persia Switch version, though the tweet was deleted soon after. Eurogamer received more information from Ubisoft and confirmed Sands of Time remake will be playable on PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series family of systems via backwards compatibility.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time stays faithful to the original story and setting, but it adds a number of new features. The most apparent is the graphics overhaul. Ubisoft built the Sands of Time remake on the Assassin’s Creed engine and also used motion-capture technology to film every scene.
Yuri Lowenthal (Castlevania, Persona 4) reprises his role as the Prince, while Supinder Wraich (Guidestones, Hunter’s Moon) plays Farah.
One feature the Game Director, Pierre-sylvain Gires, called a significant change is the targeting system. Gires said the Sands of Time remake uses it to diversify the Prince’s move sets and add another layer to his abilities, though didn’t go into specifics about how.
If that’s all a bit too modern, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake also includes the original 1989 game playable from the start. Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time news as it develops.
