The Yakuza series is kind of big in Japan. The fifth entry to the series was released earlier this month and very quickly hit the top of the Japanese sales charts, selling over 356,000 units in its first week. The first wave of Yakuza 5 DLC made its way to the Japanese PlayStation Network earlier this week and it contains a pretty sweet addition.
Virtua Fighter 2 can be found in the Club Sega arcades across Kamurocho and the four other locales in which you have free reign in Yakuza 5. What’s notable here is not the Virtua Fighter 2 cabinets, but rather the addition of online play to the Saturn-era fighter. Players can play the game against each other while still technically playing Yakuza.
This is only the first part of potentially endless DLC for the Japanese edition of the game, but it’s a nice addition for fighting fans. Will we get the VF2 online play when/if Yakuza 5 makes its way over here?
I think the bigger question lies in whether or not anything will get removed during the localization this time around, provided the game makes its way over here in the first place. Man, I hope it does. I need more Shun Akiyama in my life.
