Kennedy Miller Mitchell (KMM) Interactive, a production company based in Sydney, has confirmed that they have received $200,000 in funding from the New South Wales Interactive Media Fund  to use towards this upcoming project.

The founder of Team Bondi, Brendan McNamara, described Whore of the Orient as “one of the great untold stories of the 20th century.” Intensive details on player involvement in the game have not been released, but a brief overview has been provided.

Whore of the Orient puts players into the “most corrupt and decadent city on the planet.” Shanghai in 1936 is, according to the game’s description, a “boiling pot of Chinese nationalism,” with Kuomintang forces attempting to suppress the spread of communism while a group of Western police officials try to keep the peace.

The title is currently in development for PC and next-gen consoles. While the target window for release is expected to be in 2015, it’s not officially confirmed.

Back in April, the game ran into trouble. It was rumored that staff from Team Bondi were laid off when Whore of the Orient was having difficulty securing a publisher. Due to this, the scheduled release date may be delayed.
