Wild Games Studio Withdraws Copyright Claim Without Coming Clean

After the backlash they have received for their actions, Wild Games Studios has withdrawn their copyright infringement claim, still not admitting the real reason for it.

It is always a bit refreshing to see people getting outraged about the right things.  Wild Games Studio recently filed a copyright infringement claim against the most popular highly negative review of their game, Day One: Garry’s Incident.  The video, done by Totalbiscuit, was responded to with another video detailing the evidence explaining clearly why the claim was a blatant falsehood.

Apparently, people listened.

The game developer has issued a statement announcing they are withdrawing the copyright claim, but while one would hope they would apologize for the selfish and foolish decision to attempt the censorship in the first place (likely with a fall guy to take the blame), we have no such luck.

The statement, over on Kotaku, emphasizes the importance of free speech, but then claims the monetization of Totalbiscuit’s review of their product was not discussed before they sent him a review copy of the game.  The claim seems patently absurd, particularly given how other videos monetizing in-game footage never came under attack.

It certainly does not sound like Wild Games Studio learned anything from this debacle.  Hopefully other gaming companies can learn from their example, instead.
