Animal Crossing: New Horizons launches in a little more than a month, yet we still know so little about the game. However, a German download card for New Horizons suggests there might be some strict limitations for how we manage our New Horizons saves.
Last week, we reported on Nintendo Australia’s brief note about New Horizons save data being tied to one console. According to ResetERA users, the restrictions might go even further. The German download card for the game reportedly reads “The transfer of user- and save-data between consoles is not supported by this software.”
That would seem to suggest players can’t transfer any of their Animal Crossing: New Horizons data at all, full stop. We already know the latest Animal Crossing game won’t support cloud saves, but this has some wondering whether save data is tied to one console permanently, even if you did a full system transfer.
That would be pretty draconian, even by Nintendo’s notoriously strict data handling standards. But the “transfer of save data between consoles” part could just be referring to cloud transfers between linked systems.
Normally, you can transfer data back and forth between primary and secondary systems using Nintendo Switch Online’s cloud backups, so obviously, no cloud support means no save transfers too.
If the card is referring to this, then Animal Crossing: New Horizons wouldn’t be able to transfer data — and all your lovely furniture — to a brand-new system using a system transfer. Like, if you broke down and bought the Animal Crossing: New Horizons special edition Switch after all
Whatever the case may be, we’ll hopefully be getting some kind of official info dump soon. Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more Animal Crossing: New Horizons news as it sails in.
