2K and Yukes have announced and detailed the DLC schedule for WWE 2K16. The Season Pass will cost $24.99 (or can be purchased separately) and contains six different packs, which will release periodically from the game’s October 27th release until April 2016.
We will list all of the packs and the cost for each, and the trailer below, but check below the video for a detailed rundown of each pack.
- Accelerator DLC – $1.99
- MyPlayer Kickstart – $9.99
- Legends Pack – $8.99
- Future Stars Pack – $7.99
- New Moves Pack – $3.99
- Hall of Fame Showcase – $9.99
Total Cost: $42.94, or $24.99 with the Season Pass
As is customary with the WWE games, there will be an Accelerator Pack, available for $1.99, which allows players to immediately unlock every Superstar and Diva, as well as alternative outfits and moves. This option is only available on the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game. This is for players who don’t want to play through the various game modes to unlock everything, so it will probably be available very close to launch.
The next upgrade offered to players is the MyPlayer Kickstart, which allows you to create-a-wrestler and max all of their stats without putting the work in. This boost will set you back $9.99. Once again, this is for those who would rather bypass all of the work to improve their Superstar or Diva and immediately make them a top dog!
The Legends Pack is the first to feature DLC wrestlers, and it includes, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, Big Boss Man, Dusty Rhodes, Trish Straus, Lita, and Mr. Perfect. This is a pretty great pack that includes five Hall of Famers – two of the (if not the) greatest divas of all time, and two legends that sadly passed away recently. And then we have an icon in Mr. Perfect, who will bring a pretty great move-set to the game, and an underrated heel in the Big Boss Man. This pack offers some good variety, especially with the ladies, but more on that later.
The Future Stars Pack is probably the most exciting for modern wrestling fans because it includes two tag teams (one fantastic, one more “meh”) and something of an icon. Diego and Fernando, Los Matadores, are part of the pack, which seems a little odd, considering most fans would not refer to them as “future stars”. But whatever. Then we have a very exciting team in Blake and Murphy, the former NXT Tag Team Champions, who will bring us a great tag-team move set and offer nice match-ups with The Vaudevillains. And finally we have, probably, the most requested Superstar of them all, Samoa Joe. Again, it’s very debatable if he is a “future star”, given his age, but Joe is a phenomenal worker that will make for a fantastic inclusion in 2K16.
Next we have the New Moves Pack, which is, as it suggests, a pack with a plethora of new moves. Thirty-plus moves will come with the add-on, including the Corner Enzuigiri, Avalanche Ram, Sidewinder Suplex, Standing Crossface Chickenwing, and Dragon Sleeper.
I will say, it’s odd that a few of those moves are not in the standard version of the game. The Dragon Sleeper is a staple of Daniel Bryan’s set, and the Corner Enzuigiri is used by many, including Tyson Kidd and Adrian Neville. Regardless, it’s always nice to get some new moves.
And finally we have the 2015 Hall of Fame Showcase pack, which includes a number of playable matches:
- “Macho Man” Randy Savage vs. Jake “The Snake” Roberts
- Rikishi vs. The Rock
- Alundra Blayze vs. Paige
- Larry Zbyszko vs. Arn Anderson
- Tatsumi Fujinami vs. Ric Flair
- The Bushwhackers (Butch Miller and Luke Williams) vs. The Natural Disasters (Typhoon and Earthquake)
- The Outsiders (Kevin Nash and Scott Hall) vs. Harlem Heat (Booker T and Stevie Ray)
This pack not only offers some fun, old-school stars that many of today’s fans may not be aware of, but it also pits them against each other in matches that occurred in real-life (besides Alundra Blayze vs. Paige of course), giving fans some much needed context for the guys and gals. It’s pretty surprising to see The Bushwhackers, The Natural Disasters, Harlem Heat, Larry Zbyszko, Alundra Blayze and Tatsumi Fujinami, in a modern-day WWE game, so that alone is going to be a real fun nostalgia ride.
So that’s all of the DLC that 2K has planned for WWE 2K16. It’s a fairly extensive plan that, much like the $60 version of the game, is a fun mixture of old and new. Lots of icons and legends are there, but also plenty of modern stars and NXT fan favourites.
We recently listed which Superstars and Divas we wanted to see in a DLC pack for the game and, sadly, Samoa Joe is the only one we received. That’s not a knock on Joe, he’s great. It’s just very frustrating that there is no inclusion of the Divas Champion, Charlotte, the NXT Divas Champion, Bayley, or the other two females that instigated the “Divas Revolution”, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch. A Four Horsewomen DLC would have been great.
WWE 2K16 launches on October 27th, less than 2 weeks from now. You can check out all of our coverage of the game, including the entire roster, trailers, and more, right here. The Season Pass has no official release date, but expect it to show up on PSN and Xbox Games Store soon. For everything WWE 2K16 and video gaming, stay tuned to GameSkinny.
