The well-received Xenoblade Chronicles from Nintendo’s Wii will be porting over to Nintendo’s New 3DS. The game will be available through normal retail and direct download but will require a larger SD card than the standard 4GB if the latter option is chosen. While this hasn’t proven a massive concern among fans, it may be the first in series of large ports from the Wii.

For those who don’t know, Xenoblade Chronicles is a JRPG which follows the adventures of Shulk and his friends in their quest to obtain the legendary “Monado” sword. Drawing inspiration from earlier Xeno games, it follows the theme of the series with it’s organic, inorganic dualism. However, much like any Final Fantasy game before, one doesn’t need to have played previous entries in the series to enjoy the stand alone story (excluding Xenosaga).

While some suggest the large amount of space needed by the game is due to the enchanced capabilities of the New 3DS, it could be seen as tradition of some Xeno-games needing more than the standard amount of space.

The download version of Xenoblade Chronicles 3D does not fit on the microSD card included with New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL systems: an 8GB or larger microSD card is required to download this game from Nintendo eShop. See supported microSD cards in our Support section.”

Xenoblade was one of the bestselling games on the Wii, coming in at number 8 on the Wii’s Japanese list. If this is the first of many ports over to the new 3DS, it will be a strong choice to set the precedent. Xenoblade will be porting over next week, April 2nd 2015.
