The Freljord has always been an unpleasant place in the world of Runeterra. Various champions from the frozen tundra competed in the League of Legends, but the geographic region itself was little more than a breeding ground for champions. Now Riot is fixing that, setting the stage for a three-way power struggle over the frozen north.
On one side we have Ashe and the Avarosan, proud but seeking peace and prosperity in the harsh land. They are making alliances and actually building into a state recognizable by the rest of the world as more than a few tribes, while still being strong enough to defend themselves.
The second of these forces are the Winter’s Claw, Sejuani’s tribe. Firm in their belief peace is weakness, fit only for prey, the Winter’s Claw makes its stand based on a desire for war to constantly temper and prove their might.
The third and final of them is the Frostguard. Believed for ages to be protectors of ancient secrets, and of the entirety of Freljord, they are actually the forces of Lissandra. The Frostguard bide their time while waiting for the chance to resurrect the ancient evils Lissandra serves to blanket the world in ice.
That’s great, Mr. Fluffbunny, now about the game…
The patch is not just exciting for the lore. First up is a sale on all the Freljord champions and a single skin for each of them. Ashe, Sejuani, Olaf, Anivia, Gragas, Janna, Nunu, Udyr, and Tryndamere are all 20% off on their RP price with a skin each on sale.
In addition, summoners will also find themselves with three new summoner icons to choose between. These icons are each representative of one of the three tribes contesting the Freljord. They are temporary, but summoners can make an icon permanent by winning ten normal and/or Ranked matches while having it set as their icon.
The catch is you can only have one unlocked, so if you start trying to unlock a second one, you will lose the first. Pick your tribe and stick with it, there are no shared allegiances in the Freljord right now. Summoners have until the 14th to unlock their icons, which should be plenty of time for most, less than a single win per day.
Pick your tribe, pick your champ, and get winning!
