YouTube has Now Released 48FPS and 60FPS Playback for Everyone

YouTube now supports 48 and 60FPS for all users. However you do need Google Chrome for now, but support will be coming to other browsers as they update.
This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

Since the beginning of YouTube time it has only been able to playback videos anwhere below 30 frames per second (FPS), most videos are at either 24FPS or 30FPS. As we all know in gaming, the more FPS the smoother the game looks, just go and play Vanquish, I would hate to play that at 30FPS, let alone 24FPS. Google have now cottoned on to this fact and has now rolled out 48FPS and 60FPS playback for all users on YouTube, meaning you can now upload your 60FPS gaming footage, in just that – 60FPS.

How do users select 48FPS/60FPS?

You will need to have the latest version of Google Chrome for now, and HTML5 player enabled, but I am sure that updates are inbound for all other major browsers. The rest is as easy as changing the resolution, like you normally do simply select either 720p, or 1080p but now it has a twist. A 48/60 after it, for the FPS.

It’s as simple as a resolution change.

What does this mean for gamers?

Well it just means that YouTube gamers can now upload their 60FPS gameplay and have it look much smoother. Just take a look at the videos bellow to see the difference it makes. They are links, as embedding doesn’t do them justice, you really need to see it in full-screen.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Critical Annihilation – sneaky self promotion, did I do well?

A Playlist with Titanfall, VHGS Season 2 Trailer (this one is 48FPS) and Battlefield Hardline.
