Platinum Games’ dragon adventure in the making, Scalebound has been cancelled. With rumors of troubled development circling around the internet for a few days now, Microsoft has officially stated that Scalebound’s development has ceased.
Shown off in E3 2014, Scalebound was a cooperative action game in which players would use their dragons to fight fierce beasts. Since then, it struggled through a series of delays, finally ending as Microsoft axed the product.
According to the official Microsoft press statement:
“After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for Scalebound. We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves and other great experiences.”
This has been yet another blow to Platinum Games, especially after its lackluster performance last year with Star Fox Zero and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan being critical and commercial failures. Hopefully their next release, Nier: Automata, fares better as this has been a poor start for the new year.
