The Destiny 2 Weasel error is a common one you can experience on both PC and consoles, especially during the release of a new expansion, season, Dungeon, or other important content that sees an influx of players. Whenever it hits you, you’ll be unceremoniously kicked from the game, winding up floating in orbit. If you want to know more about the Weasel error and what you can do about it, read on.
How to Fix the Weasel Error Code in Destiny 2
Weasel errors are “an all-encompassing error message that is usually an indicator that you are experiencing a general networking issue,” according to the official Bungie Help support page. As noted, they are usually on your end (client-side), whether because of an inconsistent internet connection or other connection problems from your PC or console and the Destiny servers.
However, Weasel can also occur in the other direction, where Destiny servers are having issues connecting to a perfectly stable player device. Here are a few ways to track and fix Weasel errors.
Check the Server Status
Staying on top of things, the official Bungie Help Twitter Account usually has updates on Weasel error increases in the range of 15 minutes after they begin to occur. While timelines will vary, and the team usually can pinpoint an exact moment errors will get squashed, you at least know you’re not alone, and something’s being done.
To stay in the loop, keep an eye on your respective service’s server status:
Check Your Connection
Sometimes it’s your connection that causes the Weasel error to pop up. Here’s what you can do to eliminate that possibility, or at least confirm it is or isn’t on your end.
- Run a speed test on speedtest.net and watch out for packet loss, inconsistent speeds, and other issues.
- Restart your router.
- Check for outages from your internet service provider.
If you confirm the Weasels aren’t a problem on your end and Bungie or the wider community reports that it’s something they need to fix, there isn’t much you can do but wait for the problems to subside. Issues tend to be resolved in a couple of hours, though larger-scale outages might drag into the afternoon and evening, depending on the severity.
We wish you could do more to deal with Weasel errors in Destiny 2, but as an online game, you’re at the mercy of either Bungie’s servers, your platform’s services, or your personal connection. For more guides on the game itself, check out our Destiny 2 guides hub.
