Destiny 2 Season of Defiance: The Variable Vexcalibur Exotic Quest and Vex Nodes Guide

Dive into a new Exotic mission with this guide to completing The Variable during Destiny 2 Season of Defiance.

The Destiny 2 community has been asking for secrets for a long time, and today, Bungie delivered a new Exotic quest called The Variable. Available from the beginning of Week 2 of the Season of Defiance and only to season owners, you’ll claim it from the War Table in the H.E.L.M. It will send you on a chase for Vex data deep in their network. Here’s how to complete The Variable.

How to Find all Vex Nodes and Complete The Variable Exotic Quest in Destiny 2 Season of Defiance

There are four steps to The Variable Exotic Quest, one of which takes significant work to complete. One other is a bit of a brain teaser, and the other two are simple.

The Variable Step 1: Investigate the Gulch in the E.D.Z.

All you need to do here is go to the Gulch in the E.D.Z. and interact with the “digital traces” there, floating white Vex nodes scattered about the area.

The Variable Step 2: Follow the Digitial Traces

There are six total traces in the Gulch. We’ll cover them in the best order of discovery.

From the spawn area, jump across the gap to the platform where a Centurion and two Legionnaires are fighting. The node will be between the antennas of a device there.

Second Vex Data Trace Node

Head left into the large gulch with the ruined tank. The second node is between two blasted tree trunks.

Third Vex Data Trace Node

From the second node, go straight toward the rock face at the back of the area. You’ll find the third node there between more tree trunks.

Fourth Vex Data Trace Node

Go to the street signs to the right of the third node. The fourth one is in the space between the two signs. Jump to touch it.

Fifth Vex Data Trace Node

Head back toward the area’s entrance, but stay in the bottom part of the zone. The fifth node is underneath the bridge on the right side of the Lost Sector marker rock.

Sixth Vex Data Trace Node

To get to the sixth and final node, head up the ramp from the larger area with the ruined tank, then jump off and search on the left side of the road where the fallen trees are. The node hides among them.

Once you have all the nodes, keep going from the location of the sixth until you see a cave with glowing red symbols on its walls. Go inside and down into the depths.

You’ll encounter a blue-eyed Vex Harpy who will let you into the NODE. O.V.R.D. A.V.A.L.O.N. mission.

The Variable Step 3

For this step, you need to complete the NODE.OVRD.AVALON mission.

For the final step, head back to the H.E.L.M. and enter the War Table menu to complete the mission and receive the Vexcalibur Exotic Special Glaive.

That’s everything you need to know about completing The Variable quest and finding all the Vex digital trace nodes in the E.D.Z. In the meantime, check out our Destiny 2 guides hub for more on Lightfall, the Season of Defiance, and more.
