Hey everyone! Hi-Rez Studios has recently released their latest game SMITE to the public in open beta phase! (YAY!) For those who have never heard of it, the game is based off mythical gods and with a five player team you fight on a battle ground in third person perspective. The game was inspired by Defense of the Ancients (DotA), but they wanted to make it better by putting you in third person instead of an aerial look. Controls for the game are quite simple, using the classic WASD controls for moving your character around the battle field and the number keys for attacks. This awesome game is Free-to-Play on Windows PC, by Hi-Rez Studios.
Now to take you into a little more detail about the game. There are many different gods and goddesses to choose from, and most of which you know from stories and history classes. One of the gods you can select from is Ra, the Sun God. Each god and goddess has their own abilities and roles.
The game is an Action MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena), where you can play a god or goddess to fill the roles needed by your team as a damage dealer, tanker, crowd control, and support. The map itself also consists of NPC characters that hold buffs that you can use to your advantage on the battlefield when going up against an opponent in your lane.
The game is a five versus five battle on a fire-themed battleground. There are towers you need to get through to make it to the opponents base, which is guarded by three flaming phoenixes. The goal of the game is to make it past the phoenixes and take down the opponents Boss Minotaur.
The jungle area hides many different monsters holding buffs, like Cyclops NPC camps, and a Legendary Fire Giant.
The leveling system in the game is very similar that that of DotA. You level in game from 1 to 20, and the experience you get after each match levels you outside of the matches you play. So even if you are level 15 you still start out as level 1 at the beginning of every match. In the matches you can acquire gold from killing the other teams minions and the jungle NPCs. That gold can then be used for purchasing items from the in-game shop to benefit your character, as well as consumables that will buff you for a period of time in the game.
Your gameplay in SMITE is however all based on skill shots. Without having the aerial view from DotA, the challenge is made, even though all your attacks show the path they take, knowing how far away you are from your opponent and if your skill will reach them is all based on your own opinion. It makes the game a little hard to get use to at the start, but once you have it down you will realize that this is one game that really shows off how skillful you are in the MOBA world.
So if you are into strategy gaming, and more importantly Action MOBAs, this is most certainly a game you should try. Now that SMITE is in its Open beta phase everyone has the opportunity to try out this game, and take it from a Closed Beta player, this is on game you do not want to pass up playing. Happy Gaming!
