It’s the announcement Magic: The Gathering fans have waited decades to hear.
After consistently getting shafted in favor of other franchises and never receiving the movie treatment it deserves, Magic is finally headed to the screen, and of course its all thanks to Netflix.
The news broke via a Tweet this morning, which was soon followed by a series of press releases and statements.

Following in the footsteps of previous Netflix game adaptation Castlevania, the upcoming Magic series will also be animated. This time around the episodes will be overseen by the director duo behind Avengers: Endgame working as executive producers. The Russos commented:
We have been huge fans and players of Magic: The Gathering for as long as it has been around, so being able to help bring these stories to life through animation is a true passion project for us
In addition to the Russos, writers Henry Gilroy and Jose Molina have been tapped as show runners. We’ll have to wait a bit longer for full details, but we know the series will revolve around a new storyline, rather than an existing one, and will reportedly include “thriller, horror, and drama” elements with the story to expand on the nature of the powerful planeswalkers.
Magic: The Gathering celebrated its 25th anniversary last year and looks like it will soon see a big boost in the player base if the Netflix series does well. Are you looking forward to catching the animated series, and what characters are you hoping will make an appearance?
