Today EA confirmed that the first DLC for SimCity will be available on May 28th. The DLC is the creatively named the Amusement Park Pack, and includes pretty much a mini-edition of Rollercoaster Tycoon complete with roller coasters, Ferris Wheels and all sorts of attractions.
The DLC is tourism focused and actually looks like it would be a lot of fun… for the people who even buy it.
The real question though: will anyone even actually buy it? EA has had an atrocious track record with SimCity so far and most people are pretty pissed off about it. The enormous fiasco of release and the resulting PR disasters landed EA the infamous status as the Worst Company in America…for two years running.
The game is only mediocre anyways, and with so much hatred and animosity towards EA in the first place, I get the feeling the DLC won’t sell well. I don’t think anyone really cares about SimCity DLC and an Amusement Park Pack isn’t quite that ground breaking. At this point in time, EA would be much better off putting more effort into fixing the tattered image of the game than just releasing DLC. Well, unless this DLC turns out to be godly amazing and save SimCity. We can only hope.
EA really needs to pull off something big and impressive if they hope to redeem the image of this game. Maybe the Amusement Park DLC will do that, but I’m not terribly optimistic.
