Hogwarts Legacy Levioso vs Wingardium Leviosa: What’s the Difference?

If you’ve already spent some time playing Hogwarts Legacy, you might be surprised to hear the Wingdarium Leviosa can be learned. As popular as the spell is, one of the first spells you’ll learn after completing the tutorial is a similarly-named levitation spell called Levioso, which is just as important to combat as Protego and dodge rolling.

The differences between the two are in how they’re used.

  • Levioso allows you to pick up and levitate both objects and enemies. From there, you can use a spell such as Accio to pull things closer to you or something else to push them away.
  • Wingardium Leviosa can only be used on objects but allows for much greater control as you can freely move and rotate them. Something that can be of great help in the game’s Merlin Trials.

How to Get Wingardium Leviosa

Your chance to learn Wingdarium Leviosa comes after finishing the Complete the First Keeper Trial chapter. The main quests in the chapter are Flying Class, In the Shadow of the Undercroft, and The Room of Requirement. Once you’ve completed all the quests, you’ll receive an Owl Mail from Professor Garlick saying she’d like to teach you the spell. This will start off the Professor Garlick’s Assignment 1 side quest.

Just like previous professor assignments, you’ll have to accomplish a set of tasks before going to their class. The tasks she sets up for you are as follows:

  • Acquire and use a Venomous Tentacula.
  • Acquire and use a Mandrake on multiple enemies simultaneously.

Hogsmeade is where you’ll need to go in order to finish these tasks fast. More specifically, both the Venomous Tentacula and a Mandrake can be purchased at the Dogweed and Deathcap plant shop at the far north end of Hogsmeade.

Plants like the Mandrake can be acquired in multiple ways, but the cheaper and much quicker option is to just directly purchase the plants.

Feel free to leave the shop and use the Venomous Tentacula wherever you’d like since that’s the only requirement for the first task. The Mandrake needs to be used in a combat situation with at least two enemies, though.

Thankfully, you only need to explore the overworld a bit before coming across something hostile. Get as close as possible to the enemies and use the Mandrake to complete the second task.

Head to the Greenhouses during the day to attend Herbology Class. Talk to Professor Garlick after the cutscene, and she’ll teach you Wingardium Leviosa.
