Whether you want more pack space or hate your armor breaking, these mods can give you what you crave in Return to Moria.

Trying to survive against Orcs, goblins, spiders, and more is difficult, never mind staving off hunger, darkness inducing insanity, and poison spore mushrooms. If you’re looking to change how Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria plays out, these 10 best mods.

Fast Launch

Every time you launch Return to Moria, the opening cinematic showing Gimli inviting the dwarves to the Doors of Durin plays. Regardless of how often you’ve played, it always starts. While I personally love hearing John Rhys-Davies’ voice, not everyone enjoys watching the same thing over and over again. That’s where the Fast Launch mod by Instanity comes in, giving you the ability to skip over the cutscene and get right to world selection.

Debug Menu

While there are a lot of really great things in the game, there are a good number of bugs that occur while playing. The Debug Menu by RareKiwi is the perfect mod to deal with this. It gives you options like map coordinates, teleport locations, and collision adjustments.

Larger Chests

If you’re like me, you hoard just about everything you can in a survival game. Not only can you run out of rarer components, but who knows if you’ll be able to return to an area. Along with the amount of loot you can gather from trolls, orkish chests, or just wandering around Khazad-dum, you’re bound to run out of storage space sooner or later.

Thankfully, RareKiwi’s Fat Chests mod helps hoarders like me. It takes your normal chest and expands it to an 8×8 size. As long as the mod’s installed, all chests will have the increased size, as well as newly crafted ones. Finally, I can store all my stuff neatly instead of having a floor full of chests!

Durable Equipment

Return to Moria features a durability mechanic that impacts your tools, weapons, and armor, as well as structures throughout the game. While building degradation is less of an issue, having your armor lose value while in combat is exceedingly annoying. Many a time, I would’ve survived a fight if my armor wasn’t broken.

To counter this, momenaya has developed a series of Durable mods that allow you to change the durability of your equipment. These are all extremely useful, especially if you tend to stay away from your base for long periods of time.

Max Stacking

Another mod for the hoarders out there — or anyone who despises inventory management — Fat Stacks by RareKiwi increases the stack amount of all items to 9,999 or 999. This is great for precious stones that only stack up to 30 or cloth scraps that max out at 50. This is the holy grail for players like myself who need to pick up every piece of loot, especially since they have a shiny marker.

Sprint Dwarf Sprint

If you’ve ever tried to run away from larger enemies, like trolls or drakes, only to be pummeled because you’ve run out of stamina, you may be frustrated at the stamina system. Not only does it affect how long you can sprint, but it also affects your charged attacks. Momenaya’s Sprinting Mod allows you to eliminate the cost to run — or halve it.

No HUD

Whether you’re looking for a challenge or want to take the best screenshots of the game, the BD Screenshot – Hide HUD mod by BestDaniel-Net is the solution. Not only can you hide the HUD and mini-map, but you can also hide your character in case they’re getting in the way of the perfect picture. I know I couldn’t survive without the mini-map, but you can use this to increase the difficulty of navigating the mines, much like the actual dwarves of Moria would.

Game Pause

Solo players unite! While LotR Return to Moria is a multiplayer survival game, you’re able to play offline in your own world. However, that doesn’t change how the game itself works. If you open the game menu (ESC), time still passes. You can starve to death, die from darkness, or be killed by enemies, all while away from your screen. Thankfully, modder BestDaniel-Net has crafted the BD Game Pauser, which stops time from progressing while in the game menu.

Those are the 10 best mods for Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria. Many of them focus on reducing inventory management while increasing the survivability of characters and their items. If you’re looking for a harder playthrough, you can always reduce your armor durability or get rid of the mini-map.
