How to Romance Astarion in Baldur’s Gate 3

Astarion’s romance requires you to make some decisions that might not line up with being a morally good character, but a handful of specific options will be the ones that truly decide if you can woo this witty, arrogant man. Some of the sorts of actions he likes are as follows:

  • Any show of dominance or even ruthlessness.
  • Allowing him agency and being supportive.
  • Siding with less-than-savory characters, including Goblins and Demons.

On the other end of the spectrum, Astarion disapproves of the following:

  • Any show of submissiveness.
  • Talking down to him.
  • Being kind for the sake of it.

Romancing Astarion in Act 1

First, you’ll need to allow Astarion to drink your blood and stand up for him. He hates being seen or treated as a monster, so you’ll gain approval by seeing him as a person. He also approves of violence and bloodshed, and while he disapproves of helping the Tiefling refugees, you can earn enough approval to romance him from other options that are available when you go through the Goblin Camp (such as being hostile during dialogue with Goblins and attacking them).

Then, during the camp celebration after you’ve sided with the Goblins or Tieflings and Druids, speak with Astarion. During his dialogue, choose the following options:

  • Really? Saving lives is awful?
  • True, the Goblins would have thrown a wilder party.
  • And what’s your idea of ‘a little fun’? Or We could have fun? We could spend some ‘quality time’ together.
  • All right, let’s do it. I’ll see you later.

Click on your bedroll and you’ll start a scene with Astarion where you need to choose another set of options.

  • You don’t have me yet.
  • And what do you want?
  • Choose to nod.

Romancing Astarion in Act 2

Now, we move onto Act 2. Here, you’ll continue trying to raise Astarion’s approval like in Act 1, and you can offer to let him feed on your blood again to help with that. Other actions that raise approval include leaving the pixie in the Moonlantern and killing the Goblins in Moonrise Towers. Otherwise, the next romance scene will come after agreeing to help Raphael deal with the Orthon in exchange for learning what Astarion’s scars say.

After dealing with Raphael, you’ll have a scene with Astarion back at camp. The following are the dialogue options that keep the romance going. You won’t get another intimate scene, but this is important for the romance in Act 3.

  • About your undying love for me? Or Are you alright?
  • So do I. More than anything.
  • I care about you deeply.
  • You are worth a great deal to me, no matter what you’re going through.

Romancing Astarion in Act 3

In Act 3, you’ll want to find and defeat Cazador to finish Astarion’s quest. Afterwards, you’ll have the option to comfort him through your presence alone or with intimacy, which will wrap up his questline and mark the last romantic scene.

While that completes our Astarion romance guide for Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll still have plenty to explore in the game overall. To help, head to our BG3 guide hub for topics like how to get to the House of Hope or if you should free Orpheus.
