After meeting Astarion, you may be wondering if you can become a vampire in Baldur’s Gate 3. The creatures of the night have a mystique to them and have been part DnD since the very beginning, appearing in the game’s original edition. Bloodsuckers can be powerful beings depending on who or what they were before being turned. Plus, they have the ability to drain life from their foes. (and I’d love the ability to bite enemies for health in BG3). So can you become a vampire in BG3?
Can You Become a Vampire in BG3?
No, you can’t become an actual vampire in Baldur’s Gate 3. Astarion, a party member and romance option, is a Vampire Spawn, but he won’t technically turn you. The closest you can come to becoming an undead leech is gaining the Vampire Bite Action, which is described as:
- “You suck the blood from a living creature and regain 2d4 hit points. The target takes 2d4 Piercing damage, unless it is unconscious or you are Hiding. Biting a creature does not break stealth.”
How to Get the Vampire Bite Action in BG3
If you want to get the Vampire Bite Action, you have to let Astarion drink your blood, which grants you the ability temporarily. He’ll accost you for blood a cutscene if you have him at your camp. You’ll wake up in the middle of the night with Astarion trying to make you into his juice box. If you allow him to have his midnight snack, you’ll gain Vampire Bite.
Why Can’t Astarion Turn You Into a Vampire in BG3?
Astarion can’t turn you into a full vampire because he’s a vampire spawn. He has a master he’s no longer influenced by, but if he wanted to become a full vampire, he would need to drink his master’s blood. For now, he’s stuck between human and vampire. He has the eternal life of a vampire, but he needs to drink blood to survive.
For now, you can’t become a vampire in Baldur’s Gate 3, but the game offers so much content that it’s just a small disappointment. Instead, you can check out more BG3 guides for other features of the game, like how to become an Oathbreaker or how to get the Deluxe Edition bonuses.
