Raphael is one of the harder bosses you’ll face in Act 3. Plus, the House of Hope is full of debtors and demons who attack on his behalf, bringing your health down before you even encounter Raphael. This guide covers how to beat Raphael in Baldur’s Gate 3.
How to Beat Raphael in Baldur’s Gate 3
It takes extra time, but rescuing Hope from her imprisonment makes the fight against Raphael much easier. Raphael appears when you try to exit the House of Hope, turning the room into a boss arena.
Before the fight, you’ll want to take the Orphic Hammer and free Hope from the prison. Hope is a Level 10 Cleric, meaning she can heal and support your party. Not only that, but killing Yurgir in Act 2 means you have the chance to convince him to fight with you against Raphael.
Deal with the Adds
When you start the fight, there are a lot of adds. With Hope, you can take them down quickly with Divine Intervention since it deals enough damage to kill almost all of them. Your other option is to have Gale or another character who can deal heavy AoE damage focus on the adds alone. Remember, most enemies and structures here are immune to Fire Damage.
Destroy Soul Pillars
In the meantime, you want to be destroying the Soul Pillars Raphael draws strength from. There are four total with one in each corner. If you can, use Hold Person on Raphael to contain him until the adds and pillars are handled. Dividing the fight like this makes it much easier when you can finish the battle with only Raphael on the field to deal with since you can burn him down at this point.
And that covers how to defeat Raphael in Baldur’s Gate 3. It’s an intimidating fight at first when you see how many enemies are in play, but bringing them down is easy enough. Hope and Yurgir make a huge difference, and Hope can also keep your party up with her healing.
