If you aren’t planning on handing Shadowheart over, then you’re going to need to fight Viconia for The Daughter of Darkness. Given the number of Shar followers with her, it won’t be an easy fight. With that in mind, you’ll want to know what you’re getting into and what to do to succeed. Here’s how to beat Viconia in Baldur’s Gate 3.
How to Beat Viconia in Baldur’s Gate 3
Viconia is the boss of Shadowheart’s companion quest, and she’s found in the House of Grief in Act 3. The key to fighting and defeating Viconia is in the preparation.
- First, use any elixirs or spells you have for Necrotic and Radiant Resistance, as most of your enemies will be Clerics and rely on those damage types.
- It’s also useful to grab scrolls for spells with crowd control abilities like Hold Person and scrolls for AoE like Cloudkill. Prepare that type of spell as well, and if you can, spells that create magical light like Moonbeam and Daylight.
Cull Enemy Numbers
When you face Viconia, she’ll shapeshift into a wolf. You’ll need to burn that health bar and her true health bar afterward. This goes for multiple other Sharrans fighting with her. But the enemies with her aren’t all the same status. You can focus down the stronger ones first, or you can use AoE to burn as many of the weaker ones as possible to lower the overall number of enemies.
Manage Darkness and Bone Chill
The best strategy is to focus on Viconia and the enemies concentrating on Darkness so that you can break it. You’ll also be dealing with having Bone Chill repeatedly cast on your party, so you’ll want to time when you heal to avoid wasting spell slots. The combination of Darkness and Bone Chill with the number of Sharrans makes the battle overwhelming, in my opinion.
The Easiest Strategy to Beat Viconia
If using AoE to burn the smaller enemies and crowd control on the larger enemies isn’t working for you, there’s a last resort you can try if you’re Level 10. Since you’ll likely have Shadowheart with you, you can use Divine Intervention to deal a significant amount of damage to the Sharrans. I did this, and it brought the number of enemies down to roughly 5, which is a lot more manageable.
If you want to have Divine Intervention as a backup plan but don’t want to use Shadowheart’s, you can use Withers to respec yourself to a Cleric and get this one-time spell for yourself. Then, you can simply switch back to your original class after.
As such, when it comes to how to beat Viconia in Baldur’s Gate 3, preparation is key. Make sure you have AoE, crowd control, and a way to create magic light as your priorities when building your party.
