I’m not keen on launchers, and you may not like them very much, either. Baldur’s Gate 3 boots on PC with the Larian Launcher by default, but it doesn’t have to. Unlike some other games, particularly live service ones or those with extra DRM, the launcher is an optional inconvenience. In this guide, we’ll go over how to disable the Baldur’s Gate 3 Larian Launcher on PC.
How to Disable the Larian Launcher for Baldur’s Gate 3 on PC
The launcher really is a minor inconvenience, but it’s one I’m glad to be rid of. You’ll likely be just as glad to ditch it as I was. Once you get used to not having to click twice to launch Baldur’s Gate 3, you might forget you had to at all.
To get rid of the Baldur’s Gate 3 launcher requires you to make an adjustment in its launch options, but not through the game itself. You have to manually make a change to the game’s launch options through Steam by adding a short chain of text. Follow the steps listed below to disable the Larian Launcher for Baldur’s Gate 3:
- Right-click the game in your Steam library.
- Click on “Properties.”
- Scroll down the “General” tab to find “Launch Options.”
- Type or copy and paste the following text into the “Launch Options” text prompt:
- –skip-launcher
Changes are applied immediately, so there’s no need to apply them manually. You just exit the Properties window and launch the game from there, totally free of its launcher. There are no real downsides to playing Baldur’s Gate 3 with the Larian Launcher running, it’s just a little annoying to have to click “Play” twice.
With that all done, you can now launch Baldur’s Gate 3 without the launcher. Hopefully most of your questions about the game are gameplay-related and not technical. Check out our growing list of Baldur’s Gate 3 guides covering more comprehensive topics.
