How to Get the Tower Shaped Key

You’ll find the Tower Shaped Key during Act 2 when you come across the Last Light Inn, a refuge of sorts for the Harpers. Go inside the inn, and you’ll find Mattis. This little trickster is great at swindling you, but one of the more useful treasures he has is the Tower Shaped Key.

You have a choice on how to acquire it.

  • You can buy it from him for 1,000 gold.
  • You can convince him to give it to you.
  • You can attempt to steal it.

The easiest route is to try and convince Mattis to give you the key. Make sure your Persuasion and Intimidation skills are ready to be tested to pass the checks here. Once you succeed here, Mattis turns over the key to you.

The hints on where to use the Tower Shaped Key are sparse, to say the least. Go to Reithwin Mason’s Guild on the far left of the map.

Remember, you’ll want the Moonlantern when traveling around here, but equipping all of your party will do the trick, as well. I recommend examining the Moonlantern and letting the Pixie free. She’ll bless you with permanent protection from the shadows.

When you get there, you’ll need to explore a little bit to find the elevator and ride it down. You’ll find yourself in the basement. Straight ahead will be what looks like the base of a tower.

Pick the Lock or Use the Tower Shaped Key

Tower, meet Tower Shaped Key. However, if you somehow forgot the Toer Shaped key, you can pick this lock with a very high Sleight of Hand skill. Once you’re in the tower, it’s time to fight many shadow enemies. There’s loot to find here, too, but there are a few traps along the way, including a chest when you first walk in. Good lockpicking skills will go a long way here, so keep that in mind before trying to disarm any of them.

This area is most important for those who want to shed light on why everyone is up in arms against Kethuric Thorm and his army. You’ll discover plenty of notes on the situation, but the most valuable thing is a map in the back room, which will show you where to find a loot stash in Moonrise Towers.

That’s how to use the Tower Shaped key in Baldur’s Gate 3. It can be hard to figure out where to go in some BG3 quests — and even harder to figure out where to use some items. For more information on Baldur’s Gate 3, check out our guides section.
