Baldur’s Gate 3: How to Get the Elegant Studded Leather

As far as Very Rare armor pieces go, this one offers a lot of benefits for a Rogue. While you usually complete a questline to get it, there’s a much faster method that doesn’t have consequences. Here’s how to get the Elegant Studded Leather in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to Get the Elegant Studded Leather in Baldur’s Gate 3

The Elegant Studded Leather gives its wearer:

• +2 to Initiative Rolls.
• Advantage on Stealth Checks.
• Free use of Shield per each Long Rest.

Visit the Counting House

Normally, you get the Elegant Studded Leather after completing the quest “Return Rakath’s Gold” in Act 3. This involves searching for the Stone Lord and the Bhaalists, who broke into the Counting House’s Vaults and stole a large sum of gold. However, you already have access to the vaults by convincing the Head Clerk to let you enter and help. This opportunity should’ve popped up when the bank’s manager was taking a long time to return while meeting with the Stone Lord. After you help with the attack, you get permission to search the vaults for any clues to find and retrieve the missing gold.

Lockpick Vault 9

At this point, you’d go into the sewers. Then, find Minsc and kill the Zhentarim agent with him to get the gold and give it to Rakath. Rakath then gives you the key for Vault 9, which contains the Elegant Studded Leather. However, you can enter the vault, close the Vault Door behind you, and lockpick open Vault 9 (DC 30). The DC seems high, but Astarion has plenty of bonuses at this point, and you can use Guidance or Inspiration to help if you don’t make it. Then, take the armor and walk out. Even walking right in front of Rakath didn’t bring up the theft cutscene.
