You run into the Overgrown Tunnel if you take the quest to receive help from Auntie Ethel regarding your parasite. You can also pick up the quest by heading toward the swap and meeting Ethel on the road with Mayrina’s brothers. Either way, you’ll want to know how to get through the Overgrown Tunnel in Baldur’s Gate 3.
How to Get Through the Overgrown Tunnel in Baldur’s Gate 3
The Overgrown Tunnel is behind the illusory Gnarled Door in Ethel’s Lair, but it’s full of Noxious Fumes that make it difficult to get through.
Bring Items with Weight Like Rocks
When you enter the Overgrown Tunnel, make sure you have useless items with weight like rocks, books, or rope. Also, take either somebody with Mage Hand or somebody who can throw items a fair distance. Then, you’re ready to step beyond the Gnarled Door that isn’t actually there. Just turn your screen and step into the darkness behind it.
How to Plug the Vents
First, you fight the hag’s pawns, which are four enemies that aren’t too strong. Then, you cross the waterfall to find a path full of poisonous gas. Usually, you can burn Noxious Fumes or gas with Firebolt. However, that makes the situation worse here because the fumes are being continually pumped out by vents hidden under them. Throw an item or use Mage Hand to plug the vents, then burn away the fumes so you can pass to Auntie Ethel’s location without the vents spewing more poison.
And that’s how to get through the Overgrown Tunnel in Baldur’s Gate 3. I had a glitch where the fumes didn’t show up visually onscreen, so in that case, you need to use your cursor to see if they’re still in the area or not. Otherwise, head to our BG3 guide hub for more topics like how to rescue Mayrina and if you should take Auntie Ethel’s offer and give her your eye to have the parasite removed.
