Of all the companions you can have join your party, Minsc has the most requirements to recruit him and not kill him. He’s also the last character you’ll come across who you can invite to your party since you won’t find him until Act 3. This guide runs you through how to recruit Minsc in Baldur’s Gate 3.
How to Recruit Minsc in Baldur’s Gate 3
Minsc is friends with Jaheira, so if you didn’t recruit her in Act 2, you won’t be able to recruit Minsc in Act 3. Here are the exact steps to recruit them otherwise.
Where to Find Nine-Fingers
Before heading after Minsc, you need to do Jaheira’s companion quest in Act 3. If you don’t do it first, you won’t be able to recruit Minsc. Instead, Minsc will die, and Jaheira will leave your party. Once you’re ready, your first stop is Nine-Fingers’ Guildhall, which is circled on the map above.
An NPC will stop you, but it’s simple enough to pass a check and convince him you’re a guest of Nine-Fingers. He’ll reveal the door to let you enter the Guildhall. Talk with Nine-Fingers in her office, and she’ll give you a quest to attack the Stone Lord while he’s at the Counting House. Accept it, and make sure you add Jaheira to your party if she isn’t already before proceeding.
Where to Find Minsc at the Counting House
When you arrive at the Counting House, speak to Head Clerk Meadhoney. It doesn’t take much to convince him you’re there to help, and he’ll give you a pass to the Vaults. Go down the staircase to the left, then turn right and continue until you come to the Vault Puzzle. Once inside, you’ll have to fight a group of cultists, and Minsc escapes. However, a note on one of the bodies will send you to the Abandoned Cistern, where you can find him again.
Knock Out and Recruit Minsc
This time, Minsc is part of the cultists’ fight against you, so turn on Non-Lethal Damage under your Passives tab to avoid killing him. Knock Minsc out, deal with the cultists, then have Jaheira talk with Minsc to have him join your party. The Emperor isn’t happy with this, so you’ll have a DC 15 Persuasion Check to convince him to protect Minsc the way he does the rest of the party. Oh, and you’ll get Minsc’s hamster, Boo, too!
And that’s how to recruit Minsc in Baldur’s Gate 3. He can be tricky to recruit successfully, especially if you don’t free Nightsong in Act 2, as Jaheira can die from that option, meaning Minsc is no longer recruitable.
