Baldur’s Gate 3: Should You Side with Gortash or Orin?

Early in Act 3, you get the option to work with Gortash and take control of the brain with him. Then, a bit later, Orin gives you a counteroffer to convince you to work with her instead. Larian’s CRPG is full of these types of decisions, with some altering the course of the game and impacting how your companions feel about you. If you don’t want to side with either character, it’s possible to betray them in the end or refuse both offers. However, that means you don’t get the benefits they might bring you for the duration of their partnership.

Choice 1: Side with Gortash

Siding with Gortash in BG3 means that you won’t need to fight the Steel Watchers and Flaming Fists in the city while doing other tasks. This makes for a huge benefit alone because it’s really annoying to be arrested every time one sees your party. And it’s equally frustrating to fight them every time to avoid being arrested. Even if you agree with Gortash in the end to rule the Elder Brain together, he won’t make it to the end. That means you get to skip fighting him completely.

Choice 2: Side with Orin

Siding with Orin in BG3 gives you far fewer benefits. It’s the evil option of the two, and she basically blackmails you into siding with her by kidnapping a companion. You’ll be able to complete quests that would otherwise anger Gortash, like rescuing Duke Ravengard. However, you fight her no matter what.

So, should you side with Gortash or Orin in Baldur’s Gate 3? Gortash is the better option overall, and you’ll want to ally with him, at least temporarily, especially since Orin drops two Legendary Weapons when killing her. You can avoid fighting Gortash completely, and it’s a fairly annoying fight. But you might want to betray him to do other quests.
